In nearby Kosciusko County, 16.9 percent of the under-65 population was uninsured.
In rural Brown County south of Indianapolis, 19 percent of those under age 65 lacked health insurance.
Indiana's overall average was 14.3 percent.
Executive Director David Roos of the public insurance advocacy group Covering Kids and Families in Indiana said the economy was softening in some areas even before the onset of the recession last year."
